Licensed Practical Nursing (NPL) is a degree and a fast-track method to become a qualified nurse. The Registered Nurse (RN) course takes about 3 ½ to complete. During this period, the students of RN course will have to attend the classes and during their studentship they do not get any remuneration. On the contrary, the Licensed Practical Nursing students will be working in another employment and they study during their free time. The only requirement for the LPN students is that for practical or clinical training, they will have to invariably work in a hospital. For this purpose several hospitals or private clinics will be identified. Every student will have to undergo practical training for particular period of time as decided by the Board of Nursing. Without this practical session, the student is never issued a degree.

The Licensed Practical Nursing courses are monitored and recognized by the Board of Nursing. This is a statutory body set up by the Federal Government.
